Class Descriptions

 

VOICE CLASS

 

Be at you best for that next audition or show by learning the fundamentals of healthy vocal production in a safe and nurturing environment. Develop the singing voice as a natural extension of the speaking voice. Learn how to sing with a strong head voice, how to belt, and how to mix the head and the chest voices while exploring a variety of styles from ‘legit’ to jazz and pop. Breathing exercises, sight singing, ear training, and harmony training are all emphasized.

 

VOICE/SONG INTERPRETATION

 

This class combines the goals of the Voice Class as described above with preparing a song for performance. Lyric analysis, character development, and communicating the meaning of the song are the focus. Developing physical awareness and incorporating staging or choreography help the student deliver an effective performance that will make an audience sit up and take notice. BROADWAY KIDS  2 /BROADWAY TEENS             

This class is designed to help students utilize their singing, dancing and acting skills by preparing  show-stopping musical production numbers. The musical director guides the vocal arrangements including harmonies and rhythmic phrasing. The director-choreographer sets the musical staging and draws-out the performance qualities appropriate to the material at hand. Students hone their craft by combining the skills they've learned in order to become a well-rounded performer.

 

 

 

Broadway Kids (Ages 7-10)

 

 

 

SHOW BIZ KIDZ is a 1 hr. class which features voice training, acting techniques and theatre dance class. After the technique building part of this class, the students  put together a show-stopping musical production number. The director- choreographer sets the musical staging and draws- out the performance qualities appropriate to the material at hand, incorporating the techniques learned in class. This is the perfect class geared toward developing a “triple threat” performer!

 

 

 

STAGE DOOR KIDZ (Ages 5)

 

 

 

 

 

 

This class incorporates singing, acting and movement while giving students an avenue for self expression. Whether your goal is landing a part in the school play, being the next American Idol or feeling more confident delivering a class project the skills gained from singing and acting training will serve you well. This class explores singing, voice technique, song interpretation and acting techniques through theatre games and music in a fun and nurturing environment. Students  have fun and lots of laughs while using theatre games to encourage spontaneity, listening and responding in the moment. Students explore physicalizing a situation and developing a character. Emphasis on “focusing on the task at hand” leads the student to a more committed, less self-conscious form of self-expression.These sophisticated skills are taught in a very age- appropriate way through dress-up, role playing , music and dance!

 

 

 

THEATRE DANCE

 

Learn exciting choreography from shows like Hairspray, West Side Story, Pippin and other great Broadway repertoire. This class uses an isolation-based warm-up, across-the-floor phrases and choreographed combinations to prepare students for the stylistic versatility required for musical theatre. Physical alignment, strength, flexibility, and rhythmic dynamics are developed as students explore the various dance styles particular to different eras. 

 

ACTING/COMEDY IMPROVISATION

 

Students have fun and lots of laughs while using theatre games to encourage spontaneity, listening and responding in the moment. Students  explore physicalizing a situation and developing a character. Emphasis on “focusing on the task at hand” leads the student to a more committed, less self-conscious form of self-expression.

TEEN TAP

Are you a teenager but always wanted to learn tap? This class is for you! Join other teenagers in a beginner level tap class. Learn all of the basics as well the important steps you'll need to know for your next school show or audition!

 

ACTING/SCENE STUDY

 

Whether your goal is landing a part in the school play or feeling more confident delivering a class project the skills gained from acting training will serve you well. This class explores acting techniques to prepare students for monologues and scene work. Character and script analysis, effective physical staging, connecting with fellow actors are all emphasized.
