VOICE CLASS
Be at you best for that next audition or show by learning the fundamentals of healthy vocal production in a safe and nurturing environment. Develop the singing voice as a natural extension of the speaking voice. Learn how to sing with a strong head voice, how to belt, and how to mix the head and the chest voices while exploring a variety of styles from ‘legit’ to jazz and pop. Breathing exercises, sight singing, ear training, and harmony training are all emphasized.
VOICE / SONG INTERPRETATION
This class will combine the goals of the Voice Class as described above and will also teach students how to prepare a song for performance. Lyric analysis, character development, and communicating the meaning of the song are the focus. Developing physical awareness and incorporating staging or choreography helps the student deliver an effective performance that will make an audience sit up and take notice.
BROADWAY KIDS / BROADWAY TEENS
This class will have students utilizing their singing, dancing and acting skills to prepare a show-stopping musical production number. The musical director guides the vocal arrangements including harmonies and rhythmic phrasing. The director-choreographer sets the musical staging and draws-out the performance qualities appropriate to the material at hand. Students will develop what it takes to put it all together and become a well-rounded performer.
THEATRE DANCE
Learn exciting choreography from shows like Hairspray, West Side Story, Pippin and other great Broadway repertoire. This class uses an isolation-based warm-up, across-the-floor phrases and choreographed combinations to prepare students for the stylistic versatility required for musical theatre. Physical alignment, strength, flexibility, and rhythmic dynamics are developed as students explore the various dance styles particular to different eras.
ACTING/ COMEDY IMPROVISATION
Students will have fun and lots of laughs while using theatre games to encourage spontaneity, listening and responding in the moment. Students will explore physicalizing a situation and developing a character. Emphasis on “focusing on the task at hand” leads the student to a more committed, less self-conscious form of self-expression.
ACTING/SCENE STUDY
Whether your goal is landing a part in the school play or feeling more confident delivering a class project the skills gained from acting training will serve you well. This class explores acting techniques to prepare students for monologues and scene work. Character and script analysis, effective physical staging, connecting with fellow actors are all emphasized.
